In March we welcomed Wound Care Today to Telford for the first time.

The inaugural Wound Care Today (WCT) conference launched in 2018 to establish an event for all healthcare professionals (HCPs), who work with wounds in UK healthcare, for them to access evidence-based education and improve their practice.

With ever increasing popularity, WCT needed room to grow and so made the 2025 move to Telford International Centre.

Proving to be a successful step, we caught up with the WCT team to find out more.

What prompted the team to set up Wound Care Today (WCT)?

As a business we organise regional events and other in-person activities across the UK. From our conversations with HCPs, it became clear that, while other national wound care educational events were available, they weren’t quite meeting the needs of the delegates attending them.

We listened to the HCPs we spoke to and agreed WCT would take a fresh approach to providing education within this sector.  In particular we wanted to ensure new and next generation clinicians were given the skills they needed to progress their career, and also to achieve excellence in practice.

WCT is free to attend which is very much appreciated by our delegates, who also recognise that we don’t compromise on the quality of our education.

We endeavour to use Speakers who are leading practice in their own place of work and achieving excellence so our audiences can learn from them and apply to their own practice after the event.

What does WCT offer delegates?

We know from our event feedback forms delegates choose to attend for a variety of reasons, for example, professional development, networking and for the chance to discover new products.

WCT also provides the opportunity for applicants to present and speak for the first time on the main stage to our national audience. Each Speaker can join our mentorship programme to access support and coaching before and on the day of the event, to help HCPs take the next step.

We also aim to provide an education not just in clinical practice, but in the personal and business skills needed for HCPs working in today’s climate. For example, we offer management skills, and information on resilience and stress management. We wanted to create an event that met the needs and realities of working in healthcare today.

For attending HCPs, we also wanted a large exhibition with the opportunity to speak with industry about products and services.

We have built a loyal base of delegates, with many of our first-time Speakers from earlier years now flourishing in their careers, which they attribute to that initial confidence boost that the mentorship of WCT gave them.

How has this year’s conference compared to previous years?

This year’s conference, our first in Telford, was widely regarded as our best yet. We had excellent Speakers who all rated highly on our delegate feedback forms, and a great cross-section of attendees working across many disciplines in wound care, including pharmacy, general practice, podiatry and the private and policy sectors.

The facilities in Telford were fabulous and gave us the opportunity to run several parallel meetings for the first time. The larger exhibition hall allowed us to feature the most skills zones we have ever had, whilst accommodating our delegates and exhibitors comfortably with breathing space and room to grow next year.

Looking to the future, what are your plans for WCT over the next few years?

We aim to grow; to have more delegates and exhibitors from more wound-related disciplines and to continue to build our existing community and reputation. We hope to hold more parallel meetings and develop our mentorship programme and also plan to provide more opportunities for industry and policy makers, as well as HCPs, to have a voice and gain insight while at the event.

With the facilities available following our strategic move to Telford, we can achieve all of this.

What is the best piece of feedback you have received from exhibitors or attendees following this year’s event?

All of the feedback was positive! For the first time ever, we had no negative feedback whatsoever. Everyone at the event loved the new location and venue along with the programme and exhibition. We were delighted with the success of our first year in Telford, and hope to build on this for next year’s event.

Wound Care Today will return to Telford International Centre on 17th- 18th March 2026. Find out more about the event
